Copa America is a South American international football competition which is organized by South American football Federation (also known as CONMEBOL). The first Copa America competition was hosted by Argentina in 1916 which was won by Uruguay. Copa America is the oldest football competition in South America.12 teams compete in the tournament in a season in which 10 teams belong to CONMEBOL and two teams are invited from other confederations. 46 competitions have been organized in last 103 years and 8 countries from South America have won the title. Only Venezuela and Ecuador could not win the title yet.
Uruguay is the most dominant country is Copa America with 15 titles. Argentina is second in the list with 14 Copa America titles. Argentina holds record of most appearances in the final of Copa America. Argentinean striker Norberto Mendez and Zizinho from Brazil are the top goal scorers of the Copa America both have scored 17 goals.
Lionel Messi holds the record of most assists (12) in the tournament. Messi also has the most Man of the match awards (10) in Copa America. Below is the list of winners of Copa America from 1916.
