● Diego Forlan started his professional football career in 1997 with Independiente which is an Argentinean football club. He is considered as the best Uruguayan football player of all time.● Forlan spent five years at Independiente and scored 37 goals in 80 matches. Due to the impressive young talent of Forlan, he was signed for Manchester City by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2002.
● He spent only two seasons at Manchester United and scored 10 goals in 63 appearances. He won one Premier League in 2002-03, one FA Cup in 2003-04 and one FA Community Shield in 2003 with Red Devils.
● Uruguayan striker sealed his move to Spanish Club Villarreal in 2004. He spent three league seasons at Villarreal and scored 54 goals in 106 matches and won UEFA International Football Cup in 2004.
● In 2007 he was signed by Atletico Madrid for the transfer fee of €21 million. He played 134 matches for Atletico Madrid and scored 74 goals. He also won UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup in 2010 with Los Colchoneros.
● He started his international career in 2002. He has 112 international caps and scored 36 goals. Uruguay won Copa America in 2011 and Diego Forlan played an important role in winning the title. He was also the top goal scorer in FIFA World Cup 2010. He scored 5 goals and won Golden Shoe.
● He is also two times winner of European Golden Shoe and Pichichi Trophy in 2004-05 and 2008-09. He was also awarded the Man of the Match in the final of UEFA Europa League in 2010.
● Diego Forlan announced his retirement from international football in 2014. He also announced retirement from club football on 7th of August 2019.
