Reasons why Barcelona collapsed in UCL and Copa del Rey

Barcelona started this season with a great momentum and pace. Barcelona team was looking so composed and optimistic and every Barcelona player and fan was thinking to wining treble once again this season but we saw that Barcelona collapsed badly in the second leg of the semi final of UEFA Champions league and they still had chance to win the trust of fans by retaining Copa del Rey title but they failed again in the final of Copa del Rey. well let's take a look at the reasons behind the collapse of Barcelona's treble hunt.

4. Managerial Issue :

In the start of the season, it seemed that Ernesto Valverde was the best choice for Barcelona since Barcelona was playing with outstanding results in La-liga and sports journalists around the world started discussing about treble win for Barcelona this season. But when pressure matches started, the Barcelona team collapsed badly. One of the reason behind this is Manager Valverde's  safe approach which limited the creativity of players to keep possession. Dominant and expressive approach was the core value of Barcelona but Valverde tried to change it and team struggled on the pitch. Barcelona  was totally outplayed by Liverpool in the second leg of the Semi finals and same approach was repeated in the final of Copa del Rey by Valverde and suffered. 

3. All burden on Messi :

Too much dependence of Barcelona on Lionel Messi is another factor of  Barcelona's collapse at the end of season. Barcelona players and management depend on Argentinian star Messi in order to win a match. Lionel Messi scored more than 30% of the total goals of Barcelona in La Liga. Lionel Messi also scored 12 goals in UEFA Champions League this season which means that Messi has been a key player in UEFA Champions league and every team which played against Barcelona knew that limiting Messi will decrease the attacking ability of Barcelona so every team make a strategy to block Messi against Barcelona. we have seen this in match against Liverpool in the 2nd leg of Semi final of UCL. They put Robertson as a guard on Messi.

2. Misfired attacks :

The scoring machine of Barcelona, Lionel Messi scored 12 goals in UCL but Barcelona suffered badly when he could not score in a match. Luis Suarez is the second best scorer for Barcelona with 22 goals this season but he could score only one goal in Champions league matches. He missed some of the best chances he got to score goals. Other than Suarez, Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele also could not impressed with their performance this season. They all missed the easy chances to score goals. Dembele scored 13 goals and have 9 assists this season but his fitness has been an issue for him this season.

1. Away performances :

One of the main reason for the failure of Barcelona this season is the poor away performances. Spanish giant has been invincible at Camp Nou but they suffered in every match which they played  in away stadiums. Goal less match against Olympique Lyon in France, match against Manchester United  at Old Trafford and an embarrassing goal less second leg of the Semi final  against Liverpool at Anfield, all of these matches prove that the Valvarde's squad struggled in away matches. Well it is obvious that Barcelona will not be able to win the titles, which they dream about unless they improve their away performances.
