How UEFA President awards are decided

UEFA President’s Awards are completed and the winners have been announced. All players wait the whole year for this moment. Awards have been given for all the six categories including UEFA Forward of the season, UEFA Defender of the season, UEFA Midfielder of the Year award, UEFA Goalkeeper of the season, UEFA Men’s Player of the season and UEFA Women’s Player of the season.

Lionel Messi has won the UEFA Forward of the Season Award 2018/19. Barcelona’s Ace had a superb season this year. Messi became the top scorer with 12 goals in 10 matches in UEFA Champions league 2018/19. He also made 3 assists in UCL this season. If we look at all competitions then Messi scored 51 goals in 50 matches in all competitions for Barcelona this year.

Lionel Messi, Sadio Mane and Cristiano Ronaldo were the Top three candidates for the UEFA Forward of the Season Award 2018/19. 32 coaches from different major clubs and 55 top Sports Journalists voted for these awards.

1   Lionel Messi (Barcelona) won with 285 points

2   Sadio Mané (Liverpool) got the second position with 109 points

3   Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) got third with 91 points

Van Dijk won two awards tonight. He was named as the UEFA Men’s Player of the Season 2018/19 and UEFA Defender of the season 2018/19. No doubt he was the most deserving candidate for these prestigious awards. Jury has been so accurate this season as for as results are concerned. 

Van Dijk has been unconquered in Champions League matches this season. He marked the opponents so well that no forward could pass him freely. Van Dijk also scored 2 goals and made 2 assists in 12 matches of the UCL. He has been involved all over the pitch this season.

1   Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool)  won with 349 points

2   Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax, now Juventus)  remained 2nd with 205 points

3   Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)  is 3rd with 29 points

Van Dijk won the title with a great lead of points which is incredible and shows his worth as best defender.

2   Lionel Messi (Barcelona & Argentina) is at second with 207 points

3   Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus & Portugal)  remained third with 74 points

Well Van Dijk has the lead of 98 points from Messi. These are the outstanding figures for him. 

Frenkie de Jong won the UEFA Midfielder of the year award this year. Well this result was predictable because the ex-Ajax midfielder had an amazing season this year and he has been involved all over the pitch in the UCL matches. Especially the recent competition of big clubs to sign de Jong shows the worth of the young Midfielder. Real Madrid, Manchester United, Juventus and Barcelona all club were the contender to sign de Jong this year but he eventually decided to join Barcelona.

1   Frenkie de Jong (Ajax, now Barcelona) won with 222 points

2   Christian Eriksen (Tottenham) is second with 60 points

3   Jordan Henderson (Liverpool) is third with 59 points 

De Jong won the best Midfielder of the year with a clear lead of 162 points. These figures show his worth as a midfielder right now. Barcelona is lucky that young midfielder decided to join them in this season. It would also be challenging for de Jong to play in this new league under new atmosphere.

Alisson Becker has been named as the UEFA Goalkeeper of the year 2018/19. 26 years old Brazilian has been very lucky that he played a key role for Liverpool in winning the title of UCL this year. Alisson managed to keep 6 clean sheets in 12 UCL matches and only conceded 12 goals. He has also been outstanding in the Premier League and managed to keep 21 clean sheets in 38 Premier League matches. Liverpool and Manchester City had a close knock for the Premier League title.

1 Alisson Becker (Liverpool) won with 334 points

2 Marc-André ter Stegen (Barcelona) reached second with 136 points

3 Hugo Lloris (Tottenham) at third with 105 points
