5 Players with most Hat-Tricks in UEFA Champions League

UEFA Champions League (2019-20) group stage is almost completed with only one match left. We would like to take this moment to remember the top 5 players with most hat-tricks in the Champions league matches. UCL is a very prestigious and tough football competition and every player wants to perform in UCL matches.

Below are the top five players with most UCL hat-tricks.

5. Filippo Inzaghi (3 hat-tricks)

At number five in our list is the Italian legend Filippo Inzaghi who has scored amazing three hat-tricks in the Champions League career. He earned a lot of success in his career while playing for Juventus and AC Milan.

He is the fourth top goal scorer in the European club competition with 70 goals. Only Ronaldo, Messi and Raul scored more goals then him in European competition. He scored three hat-tricks in Champions League matches.  His first hat-trick was for Juventus against Dynamo Kiev in 1998. His second Hat-trick was against Hamburg in 2000.

Inzaghi’s third hat-trick was against Deportivo in a 4 – 0 away win. He earned lot of success in European club football and won two UEFA Champions league titles.

4. Mario Gomez (3 Hat-tricks)

At number four in our list is German player Mario Gomez with 3 hat-tricks in UCL matches. He scored all three hat-tricks for Bayern Munich. He scored 113 goals in 174 matches Bayern Munich.

Gomez scored his first hat-trick for Bayern in 2010 against CFR Cluj during group stage matches of Champions league. He scored his second hat-trick in 2011 against their rival Napoli. Due to his outstanding treble, Bayern won the match with 3 – 2 goals.

German scored his third hat-trick in 2012 against Basel during the knockout stage of Champions league. Bayern won that match with 7 – 0 goals. Gomez has scored 26 goals in 44 Champions league matches. He won one UCL title in 2012-13 with the Bayern Munich.

3. Robert Lewandowski (3 Hat-tricks)

Robert Lewandowski is at third in the list with three hat-tricks in the Champions league matches. He is known as one of the best striker in the world and he is enjoying the best form in Bayern Munich.

Lewandowski has scored 63 goals in 85 UCL matches while representing Dortmund and Bayern Munich. In 2013, Polish international scored four goals against Real Madrid in UCL semifinal which was his first hat-trick in Champions league.

After spending four successful seasons in Dortmund, he joined Bayern Munich in 2014 and continued his awesome goal scoring form.  In last four years, Lewandowski has scored more than 40 goals in every season. He has scored 27 goals in 20 matches so far in current season which shows his outstanding form this season.

He scored his third hat-trick against Red Star in group stage match last week. He scored four goals in 6 – 0 win.

2. Cristiano Ronaldo (8 Hat-tricks)

At number two in the list is none other than Cristiano Ronaldo with 8 hat-tricks in UEFA Champions league matches. Ronaldo also has record of winning three consecutive Champions league titles (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18). He is also the only player who scored in three different UCL finals.

Ronaldo scored seven hat-tricks for Real Madrid which includes hat-tricks against Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Ajax, Galatasaray and Wolfsburg. Ronaldo’s eighth hat-trick was scored during the first season at Juventus. He scored hat-trick against Atletico Madrid to secure victory for Juventus.

Ronaldo has scored 129 goals in 172 matches with 43 assists in the Champions league competition.

1. Lionel Messi (8 Hat-tricks)

Top of the list is Lionel Messi with 8 hat-tricks in Champions league. Messi has won four UCL titles with Barcelona. Messi is the first player to score four goals in two different UCL matches.

Messi scored all eight hat-tricks for Catalan side. He scored his first UCL hat-trick against Arsenal in 2010. The second hat-trick was against Viktoria Plzen in 2011. In 2012, Messi scored his third hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen. His fourth hat-trick was against Ajax in 2013.  He scored his fifth hat-trick against APOEL in 2014. Messi scored two UCL hat-tricks in 2016, one against Celtic and other one against Manchester City.

He scored his eighth UCL hat-trick against PSV in 2018. Messi has scored 114 goals in 140 UCL matches with 31 assists.
